Before the 2008 season started, many expected the Cowboys to run away with the NFC East and most thought the reigning Super Bowl Champion New York Giants would miss out on the playoffs, but if you look at the standings after 11 weeks the Giants are an impressive 9-1. The New York Giants are continuing their winning ways ever since they started heading into the playoffs last season and are winning games very easily. On this New York team every player expects to win and they go out each and every Sunday. Team is stressed with these guys and everyone knows that no one on this team is bigger than the team. Plaxico Burress found that out the hard way when he was suspended and the team responded by going out and winning.
This season the Giants are averaging 29.2 PPG while their D is allowing an average of 17 points per contest. Eli manages the clock well and has learned what it takes to win games. You see a confident Manning taking control out there and he's not worried about stats, his only concern is wins and that's what this team does. The Giants rank 2nd in the league in total yards racking up 372.5 per game. Their running game ranks number one in the league, rushing for an average of 172.7 yards per game making this team very dangerous. On the other side of the ball the New York defense is fearless and makes life miserable for the opposition. They rank 2nd in the league in total yards allowed as well as passing yards. When you put this offense on the same team with this defense you have arguably the beat team in football.
The Giants are 9-1 SU on the year and a money making 8-2 ATS. At home New York is 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS and on the road they are 3-1 SU and ATS. The over is 6-3-1 for the Giants so far this season. With a 9-1 SU record, the Giants are the second best team in the league to the 10-0 Titans, but watching both team's you can make the case that the Giants are the top team in the league. New York plays in the tough NFC East and their division record is a perfect 3-0. The Giants are doing this with a huge target on their backs. When you’re the Champion, every team gets up a little bit more to try and knock you off and so far only one team has been able to do it this season. Let's take a quick look at what's on tap for the Giants in week 12.
In week 12 the Giants travel across the country to take on the NFC West Division leading Arizona Cardinals. With a 7-3 record the Cardinals are 3-games up on the second place San Francisco 49ers. The Cardinals do play in a weak division but their offense lead by Kurt Warner has been lights out this season and their D has really improved making this a good team. The Cardinals are averaging 28.9 PPG on offense while the D is allowing 22.8 points per contest. This game will be a big test for both division leaders and could it be a NFC Championship preview? It’s too early to say but if both teams keep playing like they are, they'll be in the playoffs as Division winners and maybe even get a first round bye.
The rest of the Giants schedule is pretty tough going forward. After the Cardinals the Giants will visit the Redskins, host the Eagles before going to Dallas and then they'll face the Panthers before ending the season vs. the Vikings. All of their remaining games are against teams that after 11 weeks still have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs. The schedule is tough but the Giants will go in with a game plan and take care of business. This Giants team, a team most thought would not be playoff bound should make it to the playoffs and make some more noise. Keep an eye on this team because they're for real.
